UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG ECO-U KIDS CAMP (top)

eco-camp1eco-camp2WASAC is proud to assist the University of Winnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre with their Eco-U Kids Camp.  The Eco-U camp provides children with the opportunity to attend a day-camp and learn about environmental issues, indigenous science, nature and wildlife.  The Eco-U camp is completely free of charge and children are provided with transportation, nutritional meals, supplies and Eco-U t-shirts.  A major focus will be on spreading the message to their friends, schools and families, that we all have a part to play…REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE!  The participants will finish the week with a new appreciation for Mother Earth and a better understanding of their impact on the environment.

YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM (top)

yap1yap2The Youth Achievement Program offers the opportunity for Aboriginal youth to train and receive practical recreation experience down a positive and enriching path in becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

The Youth Leaders receive training and participate in educational workshops, recreational games and cultural workshops.  The Youth Leaders have opportunities each week to learn and participate in sporting activities, excursions and Aboriginal cultural events.  They will also have the opportunity to work at WASAC Kids Camp and put the skills they have learned into practice.

WASAC KICKERS SOCCER PROGRAM (top)

soccer1The WASAC Kickers Soccer Program introduces the widely-loved game of soccer to Aboriginal children in the inner city.  Soccer games and practices are organized for the participants, to teach them the skills, rules and techniques of the game.  The soccer teams are run in partnership with the Winnipeg School Division.   The children’s teams play in the inner-city soccer league which allows the players to practice their skills in a competitive and fun environment.

WASAC NORTH (top)

north1north3WASAC North brings together an ensemble of Aboriginal Youth Mentors from WASAC, who with pride and passion share their knowledge of sport, culture and community development with Aboriginal youth from communities across the North such as Shamattawa, Pauingassi, God's Lake Narrows, Lac Brochet, Duck Bay, Pine Creek and Camperville.  The goal of this initiative is to promote community spirit and strengthen sustainable, local community programs.  Young people from northern communities will be trained by the WASAC Youth Team in the methods and structures that are needed to build community involvement while promoting sport, culture and natural education connections.

TRUE NORTH HOCKEY ACADEMY (top)

hockey1hockey2Students from Chief Peguis, Donwood, Strathcona, Buchanan, Hedges and Crestview schools are given the opportunity to participate in a unique program that focuses on the development of ice hockey skills.  With the leadership of professional coaches and instructors, the players participate in a mix of drills and fun activities all while learning the rules of the game.

TOUCHDOWN FOR KIDS (top)

football1
Touchdown for Kids brings the University of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg High School Football League and WASAC together to run a football program for youth.  This summer camp provides participants with an opportunity to develop and improve on their football skills, both recreationally and competitively through a safe yet challenging environment that promotes health and fitness.

UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG ECO KIDS ON CAMPUS (top)

WASAC partnered up with the University of Winnipeg’s Innovative Learning Centre to deliver a unique program that focuses on making post secondary education relevant to elementary students. Students from inner city schools are exposed to a university campus environment complete with university professors instructing classes.

STUDENT MENTOR ABORIGINAL ROLEMODEL TUTORSHIP PROGRAM (SMART) (top)

The Student Mentor Aboriginal Role-Model Tutorship (SMART) Program is a project with an initiative for cross-mentoring Aboriginal students.  This groundbreaking project has 3 stages.  The first is the Higher Learning after School Program where the students are assisted with their school work while also engaging in fun activities after school.  The second phrase is called Building Leadership, where students will be educated in a wide array of areas all with one goal in mind; to enhance their leadership qualities.  The third stage is called the Community Involvement Youth Role Modeling where the youth use the skills they have learned and pass them along to students who are younger and in similar circumstances.  Each year the cycle will continue and the result will be more Aboriginal youth being equipped with self-confidence and self-esteem necessary for them to springboard past any of the barriers that are hindering them from reaching their potential.

WASAC EXPRESS (top)

The WASAC Express Program is a multifaceted event of unprecedented proportion featuring Aboriginal talent from across the province.  Propelled by awe-inspiring musicians, singers and dancers, WASAC Express will transform the stage into joyous frenzy.  WASAC Express will partner with Aboriginal communities across Manitoba to put together a jaw-dropping show which will raise funds that will benefit the youth living in these communities.  These funds will provide a financial base which will be used to implement youth community programs and initiatives.

SOUTHEAST TRAINING ACADEMIC RECREATION STUDENTS PROGRAM (STARS)

The Youth Leadership Initiative offers the opportunity for Aboriginal youth, in Grade 10-12 years to train and receive practical recreation experience in a positive and enriching path in becoming the future leaders of tomorrow.  The South East Collegiate (SEC) youth participants will be a pivotal segment of their school’s Youth Leadership Development Strategy.
The Youth Leaders will receive training and participate in educational workshops such as CPR, First Aid, recreational games and cultural workshops. The Youth Leaders will have opportunities each week to learn and participate in sporting activities, excursions and Aboriginal cultural activities.
